A Reliable Option for a Wide Range of Cases
Fixed braces use brackets bonded to the teeth and a wire that applies gentle, continuous pressure to move teeth into a better position.
Braces remain a dependable option for children, teenagers and adults, and they can manage some movements and bite corrections that are more difficult to achieve with removable aligners.

Fixed braces may be suited to:
- Crowded or crooked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Bite problems, where the upper and lower teeth do not meet evenly
- Cases requiring more complex tooth movement
- Patients who would prefer not to manage a removable appliance
Because braces are fixed in place, they work continuously without relying on you remembering to wear them. For some patients, particularly younger ones, this is a genuine advantage.
What Treatment Involves
Treatment begins with an assessment including scans and imaging so we can see the position of the teeth and roots and plan the movement required. We then explain the proposed plan, the expected timeframe and the cost.
Braces are fitted over an appointment, and you attend regular reviews so the wire can be adjusted and progress checked. Treatment time varies widely, from several months to a couple of years.
Once teeth are in position, the braces are removed and retainers are fitted.

Living With Braces
Teeth are usually tender for a few days after braces are fitted and after adjustments. This settles, and most patients manage it comfortably.
Some foods need to be avoided, particularly hard, sticky and chewy items that can damage brackets or wires. We will give you a clear list.
Cleaning takes more effort with braces, because brackets and wires trap food and plaque. Careful cleaning is essential throughout treatment — poor hygiene during orthodontic treatment can leave permanent marks on the teeth.
If you play contact sport, a mouthguard should be worn over your braces.
After Braces Come Off
Retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment, not an optional extra. Teeth can drift back towards their original position, and retainers hold the result.
We will explain the type of retainer recommended for you and how long to wear it.
Honest Advice
Orthodontic treatment carries risks, including temporary discomfort, the need for excellent oral hygiene, and relapse if retainers are not worn. Where a case would be better managed by a specialist orthodontist, we will refer you.
