When to Bring Your Child In
It is generally recommended that children have their first dental visit around their first birthday or when their first teeth appear. Early visits are usually short and mostly about familiarity — sitting in the chair, counting teeth and having a look.
Regular visits from a young age make it far easier for children to accept treatment later if they ever need it.
What Happens at a Children’s Appointment
We start by getting to know your child and letting them get comfortable. We examine their teeth and gums, check how the teeth are developing and coming through, and look for early signs of decay.
Where appropriate, we clean the teeth and apply preventative treatment. We also talk with you about brushing, diet, dummy or thumb habits and anything else relevant to your child’s dental development.
Parents are welcome to stay with their child throughout.
Treatment for Children
Where treatment is needed, we explain it to both you and your child in a way that is calm and age-appropriate. This may include fillings, preventative treatment, mouthguards for sport, or management of a dental injury.
Baby teeth matter. They hold space for the adult teeth, help with speech and chewing, and untreated decay in a baby tooth can affect the adult tooth developing beneath it.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is an Australian Government scheme that provides eligible children with a benefit towards basic dental services over a two-year period.
We treat eligible children under the CDBS. Bring your Medicare details and our reception team can check eligibility and explain what the benefit covers.
Helping an Anxious Child
Some children find dental visits difficult, and that is completely normal. We take things slowly, explain what we are doing before we do it, and give your child some control over the pace of the appointment.

Wheelchair access is available at the rear of the practice. HICAPS is available for on-the-spot health fund claiming, so please bring your health fund card. We are a preferred provider for Medibank and Bupa, and we participate in Smile.com.au. Payment plans are available through DentiCare and Pretty Penny Finance.
