Preventative dentistry is one of our priorities at New'Gen Dental Surgery. Regular examinations and professional cleaning are the simplest way to protect your natural teeth, and they usually mean less treatment, less cost and less time in the chair over your lifetime.
Most dental problems develop quietly. Decay does not usually hurt until it reaches the nerve, and gum disease is often painless in its early stages. Routine visits give us the chance to find these changes while they are still small.

What Happens at a Check-Up
Your appointment begins with a conversation about any concerns you have and anything that has changed since your last visit.
We then examine your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, checking for decay, wear, cracks, gum inflammation and any changes that need attention. Where necessary, we take X-rays or scans to see between and inside teeth, and to assess bone levels.
Once we have finished, we explain what we have found in plain language and talk through the options. If something is best monitored rather than treated, we will tell you.
Your Clean at the Same Visit
For most patients, a professional clean is carried out at the same appointment as the examination, so one visit covers both.
Where there is heavier build-up, or if your gums need closer attention, we may recommend a separate hygiene appointment with more time set aside.

Prevention is not the same for everyone. Your risk of decay and gum disease depends on your diet, medications, dry mouth, smoking, medical history, grinding habits and how your teeth are arranged.
We use what we find at your examination to recommend an interval between visits that suits your risk, along with practical suggestions you can act on at home.
Preventative Care for the Whole Family
We see patients of all ages, from young children having their first look in the chair through to older patients managing existing dental work. Eligible children may be treated under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
Establishing the habit of regular visits early makes dental care far less daunting later.

Wheelchair access is available at the rear of the practice. HICAPS is available for on-the-spot health fund claiming, so please bring your health fund card. We are a preferred provider for Medibank and Bupa, and we participate in Smile.com.au. Payment plans are available through DentiCare and Pretty Penny Finance.

An examination and clean are usually completed in the same visit. If more extensive treatment is needed, we will explain this and arrange a separate appointment.
No. X-rays are taken when clinically necessary, such as checking between teeth or assessing bone levels, not automatically at every visit.
No. Many of our patients return after a long gap. We start with an examination and work through what is needed at a pace you are comfortable with.
